The book was a great read but did not get into the life of a miner much at all. Mostly historical overview of the money changers.

Over the years I have driven up and down US-395 between Victorville and the Nevada border, and I often wondered about the stories behind the names and places I encountered. Nadeau's thoroughly enjoyable book on the California silver rushes answered many of my questions and led me to further study beyond the Owens Valley and Mammoth areas.
